Gorgeous ASTON MARTIN V8 Volante of the first series with automatic transmission and known history in top colour combination.

INQUIRY ABOUT THIS VEHICLE

After a break of almost ten years and an economic odyssey with changes of ownership, Aston Martin introduced the open version of their V8 Coupé with fastback bodywork in the spring of 1978, which had the beautiful epithet “Volante”. These convertibles were designed primarily for the US market, where there had been a gap in supply since the mid-seventies. Technically, they were identical to the closed version and – until the introduction of the Series 2 in the summer of 1985 – equipped with carburettors enthroned under a domed bonnet without air intakes.

This vehicle is an early example which, according to the available certificate from the “British Motor Industry Heritage Trust”, was delivered to the concessionaire Hollywood Sports Cars in California in November 1978. In 2001, the Volante was then registered in Paris before being imported to Germany in 2010. It has been in current ownership since 2016 and has undergone an intensive restoration here, which was completed in 2021. The quality of the work, which included a paint job on bare metal, is absolutely convincing!

The optimisations made during the restoration include the installation of stainless steel manifolds and exhaust system as well as an electronic ignition system from 1-2-3, which enables the best running characteristics of the eight-cylinder engine. The tyres of the refurbished 15″ original rims are model-specific from AVON in the size 235/70 and fitted with white wall rings on this vehicle. The dark blue soft top harmonises perfectly with the colour combination of paintwork and upholstery and is finished in Sonnenland quality.

The interior of the Volante is lavishly upholstered in premium beige leather, which contrasts perfectly with dark blue piping and carpets. The numerous trims of polished burl wood show a very beautiful grain and, together with the chrome fittings on the doors, seats and centre console, convey a high-quality ambience in the interior. In front of the instrument panel, an easy-grip steering wheel with a wooden rim, black spokes and brand logo is positioned in such a way that it does not interfere with the view of the main instruments.

To open and close the soft top electrically, there is a switch to the left of the
dashboard – an automatic is of course part of the standard equipment of a convertible in a vehicle class like the Volante. Thanks to the well-insulated fabric roof, the car is also suitable for “Grand Touring” and is – theoretically – also good for a speed of around 230 km/h thanks to the superior engine. But, there is no doubt about it: the real attraction of this vehicle lies elsewhere – open-top driving with the Aston Martin is really a treat!

With the V8 Volante, Aston Martin succeeded under difficult circumstances in creating an open premium vehicle that has long since matured into a classic. The first series, of which only 656 were built and whose styling features were also adopted for the coupé version, is particularly sought-after today! The vehicle presented here is in the best condition and is certainly an enrichment for every fleet…
