Fantastic PORSCHE 911 SC Coupé with sliding roof and new complete bare metal paint in the original colour.

Unlike today, Porsche’s model range in 1978 was very clear. The 911 was a bit gray at the time, but still a bestseller that continued to set standards in its class and made competitors despair. This SC 3.0 (type 911.344) was delivered to its happy first owner by the servicing dealer in the USA on January 20th, 1978, as this original service booklet shows.

The shapely coupé is equipped with an electric sliding roof that allows somewhat less air into the vehicle cabin than the removable roof section of the parallel-built Targa, but the captivating lines of the original design are retained. Other equipment includes air conditioning, power windows and the classic forged wheels from Fuchs in 16″ size, which are completely new with premium tires from Michelin.

The Porsche was last registered in the state of Kansas in the Midwest of the USA before it was re-imported to Germany in the fall of 2013. The paintwork was in need of renewal, but the body showed itself to be completely rust-free when the paint was removed, which is already an absolute exception – even for well-maintained models of this year of construction. The paintwork was then very carefully completely renewed in the original color in 2015 at a specialist garage and presents itself flawlessly.

In the course of the repainting, not only the windshield (genuine Porsche part) was renewed, but of course also all seals and numerous rubber parts on the body. The cognac-colored interior harmonizes perfectly with the paint in dark brown metallic and in this combination is highly topical again today. The original front seats have been extensively refurbished by a saddler and now are in the best possible, mint-like condition. The interior is otherwise in well-preserved original condition.

Headlights and taillights have already been converted to the European specification with new parts. The 3-liter unit in this model produces 180 hp and has the more stable alloy block compared to its direct predecessor (with 2.7 liters displacement). The engine is “matching numbers”, has a mileage of just under 160k miles and runs trouble free. Engine and transmission have been completely resealed – flywheel, chain tensioner, clutch and the complete engine periphery are freshly renewed, as well as the brake system with lines and also the steering bearings.

After the brilliant price surge of the so-called “F model” of the 911 series, its successors with safety bumpers are moving into the center of interest. The more mature technology, better parts availability and lower entry-level prices make the “G model” interesting – which will also result in further rising listings here. This example is in a very attractive, largely refurbished condition and is likely to be on the shortlist of genuine prospective buyers, not least because of its great color scheme.
