Performance-upgraded MORGAN +8 Roadster with original hardtop in very authentic condition out of longterm collector ownership.
The Morgan Motor Company, which has been in existence for more than a century, launched the Plus 8 in 1968, a sports car that still fascinates today: hand-built in the classic production method with a ladder frame and a wooden frame decorated with sheet metal, the roadster combines its pre-war style with boisterous V8 drive technology. Ultimately, it was this car that saved Morgan from bankruptcy in hard times and is today not only one of the best-known, but also one of the most sought-after models in English automotive history.
The vehicle offered here was completed in autumn 1975, still with a narrow track width but already with the better, fully synchronised four-speed gearbox, which transmitted the power of the eight-cylinder to the rear axle with limited slip differential. The enormous driving performance of the drive is increased even more in this example: by installing a fan manifold and an adapted stainless steel exhaust system, this +8 really accelerates breathtakingly when required! Even by today’s standards, the potential of this classic car is on a sports car level.
For almost twenty years, the Morgan has been owned by an enthusiast who has driven it, among other sports cars, frequently and also over longer tours. Regular servicing has been carried out by a specialist Morgan workshop near Hamburg, which is documented by an extensive folder with many maintenance records. The car’s equipment also includes a chromed luggage rack, additional headlights and stone guards on the main headlights, a rally trip master with stopwatches and leather-covered bucket seats that are much better to sit in – so if you want, you are also equipped for “LeJog”. The car, painted in classic british racing green, is a welcome participant in all kinds of car-related events, as it conveys British roadster culture in its purest form and, despite its popularity, is rarely seen on the road due to its modest production numbers.
This Morgan is in very attractive and authentic overall condition throughout – as a ’76 model it still has the dashboard with central instruments, the original steering wheel and controls show desired patina and the correct leather belt with brand logo is fitted over the side opening bonnet halves. The Plus 8 rides on the factory aluminium wheels, not retrofitted chrome spoke rims. The mechanics are to the point and work reliably, making the car suitable for long journeys – get in!
Like very few other vehicles in the world, the Morgan Plus 8 combines traditional automotive engineering and looks from the late 1930s with driving performance that is impressive even from today’s perspective.
