ALFA ROMEO Montreal in extensively restored original condition with sports suspension, colour glazing and traceable history.

ANFRAGE ZU DIESEM FAHRZEUG

When Alfa Romeo exhibited the Montreal at the Expo in Canada in 1967, its futuristically designed front looked as if it had come from another star. To this day, the striking front end with its retractable headlight louvres is unmistakable. As is well known, the sports coupé was equipped for series production with the in-house V8 engine, which was derived from the Tipo 33 racing car, which finally made the Montreal the dream car of its time. However, at the time it also cost as much as a Giulia, a Spider and a GT Junior combined and remained out of reach for most…

This example was delivered to the first owner in autumn 1972 by the French Alfa Romeo general importer in Paris and registered there for the first time on November 29th of the same year. The car remained in France until 2008, when it was sold to a collector in Hungary and finally to Germany at the end of 2013. Corresponding documents of the earlier registrations and also some service invoices are available. In Germany, the Montreal received an extensive technical overhaul as well as a full TÜV approval with a historic car registration and was maintained by a long-time Alfa specialist until now.

The vehicle presents itself today in convincing body condition and appealing original colour combination – the metallic paint in the subtle “luci del bosco” is combined with beige-brown interior, which still features the genuine standard fabric upholstery. The entire interior has a well-kept appearance, is lined with beautiful carpets and is visually dominated by an excellently preserved Hellebore wood steering wheel in front of the main instruments. A contemporary Pioneer cassette radio completes the interior.

The factory suspension of the Montreal, which was somewhat undersized, was significantly optimised on this vehicle with a specially tuned lowering kit, PU suspension bushings and Bilstein gas pressure dampers. In addition, the car received adjustable swing arms on the front axle suspension as well as brake pads and hoses for sporty driving. The 195/70 VR14 tyres from Vredestein match the original “millerighe” wheels from Campagnolo, which were manufactured in a magnesium/aluminium alloy, very well visually.

All model-specific stainless steel parts are present, which saves the new owner the difficult search for replacements. The Spica injection system works perfectly and currently requires as little attention as the rest of the technology. The MOT was renewed in April 2020 without any faults – the Montreal is therefore ready for immediate registration. The good overall condition of the vehicle is also documented by a new valuation report for delivery to the new owner.

The Montreal was an exceptional vehicle at its time and is certainly one of the most desirable coupés of the traditional manufacturer from Milan. It took a long way until the market honoured the value of this fascinating dream car with corresponding prices. This “non-red” example impresses with the extravagance of its original colour scheme and the very good overall condition with optimised technology, so that a future value forecast is clearly positive!
