Elaborately restored TRIUMPH TR3A with sports seats, overdrive and other technical optimizations in a condition suitable for everyday use.

INQUIRY ABOUT THIS VEHICLE

When the TR3A was launched in 1957, the Triumph Roadster prototype presented at the Geneva Motor Show was already five years old. Unlike the original, it had disc brakes on the front axle and larger carburettors that further boosted performance. Compared to its immediate predecessor, the new model with the appendix “A” was manufactured with a wider grille and, for the first time, external door handles. This went down well with the target group: production figures were significantly higher than before and about 90% of them went for export.

The USA was the main sales market for the British roadster. This car was also originally delivered there and imported to Germany in August 1989, as can be seen from the available documents. In 2001, the then owner, a German-American living near New York and in Hanover, started a complete rebuild of the car including a new engine. The restoration was completed in 2007 and is both photo and invoice documented. A value appraisal from that time also still exists.

This TR3A, in addition to the leather-covered sports seats, which provide much better support than the standard seating, is also equipped with an overdrive that can be manually engaged in 3rd and 4th gear. In addition, a high-performance starter, contactless ignition and chrome-plated sports air filters are part of the equipment. A (modern) CD radio is installed hidden in the lockable glove compartment and, if required, provides appropriate sound via the speakers installed in the doors. The tires on the 15″ spoked rims with central locking have the model-correct size 165/80.

Four years after the restoration, the Triumph was sold to the current owner, who continued to have it serviced regularly. In the summer of 2021, the carburettors and steering, among other things, were overhauled and the cylinder head was replaced. The car has just had a new service and MOT. The engine and underbody have been ice-blasted. The TR3A starts reliably, has good power delivery and is suitable for longer journeys. For uncomfortable weather there is an additional soft top and side panels with sliding windows.

The scope of delivery also includes the on-board tools, a car cover and a so-called
permabag. So if the car is to be mothballed for the winter after the season, everything is there for professional storage. For the hard-boiled believers who do not shy away from a British open top even at low temperatures, the only thing missing is a thick leather jacket with fur collar and, if necessary, a suitable headgear to have fun with the Triumph all year round…

As a typical representative of English roadster tradition, the TR3A is a sought-after classic for enthusiasts who want rustic driving characteristics. This example has been consistently restored and sustainably optimized. The Triumph offers an automobile journey back in time to the 1950s for a manageable budget – and with foreseeable value stability!
