Even Enzo Ferrari, who is acknowledged to have built many of the most fascinating sports cars in history, called the Jaguar E-Type “the most beautiful car in the world”. When the car appeared in 1961, it was simply a breathtaking sensation and today it is undisputedly one of the most popular classics of all! Few automobiles have achieved such a nimbus as the brand’s own successor to the previously – also on the international racetracks – extremely successful XK model…

This vehicle was first registered on 19 January 1967. More than 20 years ago, the former head of design at Audi bought the car and had it extensively restored “nut & bolt” in England by Jaguar specialists according to his ideas. The appearance, which is based on the E-Type competition models of the time, is essentially characterized by the super rare 8-inch deep spoked wheels by Borrani, which are fitted with wide 225/70 VR15 tyres. The bonnet and the rear wheel arches were adapted accordingly.

The roadster also received an adjustable suspension during the rebuild in the UK, which, in conjunction with the wheel/tyre combination, makes the car drive like it’s on rails! The engine starts immediately, runs fantastically and delivers – subjectively felt – significantly more than the 269 hp stated by the factory. The propulsion is absolutely superior and, thanks to the optimized cooling system, free of the usual thermal problems of the model. The 4-speed gearbox shifts like a hot knife through butter.

The paint finish in classic “carmen red” contrasts perfectly with the black fabric-quality soft top and the interior lined in black Connolly leather. The centre console, clad in aluminium panels and equipped with toggle switches, was spared a radio. The driver’s seats are noticeably padded so that even taller drivers can sit neatly in the car. The dashboard is visually dominated by the beautiful wooden steering wheel, which gives the Roadster the final British touch…

Twenty years after its restoration, the car is still convincing with its dreamlike fit of bonnets and doors as well as the beautiful flatness of the body. The paintwork shows minor signs of age in a few places, while the soft top and interior still have the appearance of being as good as new. Also due to the use of the car in the holiday domicile in the south, the E-Type has been spared from new corrosion until today. Due to its age, the collector is now handing this OTS over to other hands after two decades in his possession – with historic car registration, new MOT approval and a major service for delivery.

This Jaguar E is a real exception due to its captivating visual presence – coupled with technical improvements that further intensify the already high driving pleasure of an E-type: this car also drives as impressively as it looks! Only the few stubborn advocates of true-to-factory originality will not be happy with this roadster – all the more so for everyone else!
