ASTON MARTIN Virage (RHD) in top colour combination with rare manual gearbox and very low mileage.
This impressive, handmade and entirely aluminium moulded work of art on wheels is the 50th Virage ever built by the renowned manufacturer from Newport Pagnell. After a production period of 20 years, it was time for a successor to the successful predecessor model, which, as the DBS since 1967 and later as the V8, accompanied the noble Aston Martin forge through turbulent times. Götterdämmerung began as early as 1986 with the development of the car, whose public premiere took place at the Birmingham Motor Show in October 1988.
The specimen offered here was lacquered in Mason Black (black plain) and lined with black leather by Connolly, contrasting with grey piping and grey Wilton wool carpets – a choice that the buyer could not have made better at the time. There is also plenty of sumptuous burl wood to be found from the dashboard to the centre consoles and door panels.
Equipped with all the available refinements of the model year, such as climate control, 8-way adjustable and heated driver’s seats with lumbar support and memory function, radio/CD unit with changer, to name but a few, this model also offers the coveted and very rare manual transmission, which gives the Virage considerably more power than the more frequently offered automatic version. The hand-built V8 engine, the builder of which is traditionally immortalised on a brass plaque in the engine compartment, has 16-valve technology and produces 330 hp from its 5.3 litre capacity, while delivering 475 Nm of torque.
This Virage has a very low documented mileage of only a little over 15,000 miles and will receive a new inspection for delivery. The original owner’s manual with board folder, all keys and even the first English number plates with Aston Martin embossing are available and are completed by contemporary brochures, which the passionate second owner – in whose hands the car has been since 1992 – has collected.
In the early years, maintenance was carried out by the Aston Martin plant in Newport Pagnell itself, later a service company specialising in the brand at the second residence of the long-time owner, in Hamburg. The car corresponds to the state of delivery without subsequent modifications and is “matching numbers”. It is delivered ready for registration with new inspection and new TÜV/AU full acceptance.
In 1990 this car cost about 400.000 DM and will certainly increase in value in the near future, similar to all previous models of the Virage. The clearly arranged number of only 365 units produced until 1995 only allows the thesis that it will become one of the most sought-after collector’s vehicles worldwide. A Virage is a car for the nonconformist, who sees it as a driving work of art with investment potential and takes pride in owning this milestone of the English noble manufacturer.
